Welcome Baby

This last cake was made for a Baby Shower to welcome a new baby boy, Paxton. I decided to try using Chocolate fondant, before I knew that it would be reaching over 100 degress outside, but even with a few shakey moments, I love the way the cake turned out! Fortunately the shower was indoors and the cake was right in front of the a/c. This was my first time decorating/delivering a cake in such hot weather and there are some things I would do differently, but overall the cake turned out adorable and I hope the mom-to-be was happy!

The cake was all Chocolate cake. The bottom tier was filled with White Chocolate Mousse and fresh strawberries and the top tier was filled with a bittersweet Chocolate Ganche and Kahlua Cream Cheese frosting. Everything was covered with a thin layer of buttercream and covered in Chocolate Fondant....needless to say the kitchen smelled delicious!

The little Converse and bow were made from gumpaste. The shoes turned out perfect, my new favorite decorations for baby shower cakes!

Pre-K Graduation

The second cake was for my son's Preschool Graduation from Pre-K. They were having a Beach theme party, so I made a fun beach cake and some cupcakes to go along with it.

The cake was a Chocolate/White Marble cake with Chocolate Ganache and Oreo filling. The cake was covered in Buttercream and all the pieces were made of fondant. The cupcakes were Chocolate with Buttercream frosting.

Everything was gone within minutes....so that was a good sign!

Happy Graduation

This past weekend was not only HOT, but I had a few really fun cakes to do!

This first cake was for two beautiful sister that both graduated from college, one with her B.A. and the other with her R.N. They did a combo graduation party and asked me to make a simple, graduation cake to use as the centerpiece of the dessert table. I loved the colors they chose to use and it came out great! I only wish I had remembered to take a picture of the table...it was beautifully decorated.

The cake was Carrot cake with White Chocolate Cream Cheese frosting. Everything was created out of cake and fondant, except the top piece of the hat was styrofoam covered in fondant. The diplomas were created with fondant.

Enjoy!

Cupcakes...mmmm....love Cupcakes

Here are a couple of picures of the cupcakes I made for our Father's Day BBQ.

The cupcake is a Buttermilk cake. The cupcakes topped with toasted coconut are filled with a lemon curd filling and topped with coconut cream cheese frosting. The cupcakes topped with a fresh strawberry are filled with pastry cream and topped with cream cheese frosting.

Both were delicious and light for a beautiful sunny outdoor BBQ!

Woody Car Cake and Bridal Shower

First...Happy Father's Day!

I have a couple of new cakes to share that I LOVE!!!

The first one was made for a Bridal shower. They wanted something simple and clean. The brides colors are navy and burnt orange, so I decided to go with white fondant, navy ribbon, and I created a flower which I then painted a burnt orange color. I love the way this cake turned out, it was beautiful!

The cake was red velvet with a white chocolate cream cheese frosting!

This next cake is hands down my favorite! A friend wanted to surprise her husband for Father's Day with a woody car cake.....so here it is! It was so much fun to make and came out incredible!

The cake was Chocolate cake with a peanut butter filling. We covered it in fondant, hand painted the car, and used fondant for the detailing.

Here's some photos of the process....

And now the final product.....

Polka Dots, Bows, Graduation!

Tis' the season for graduations! This client wanted something simple, feminine and didn't want it to scream "graduation!" This was a lot of fun to make, I'm really happy with how my first bow turned out!

The cake was a White cake with a Raspberry buttercream filling and covered in fondant and decorated with gumpaste and fondant.

Honoring the Nurses

Today I made a special delivery to some very special people! I made a cake and about 40 cupcakes for some of the nurses and doctors at Kaiser San Jose.

The cupcakes are Red Velvet with Cream cheese frosting and some had little nurses hats that I made out of fondant.

The other flavor was German Chocolate with Kahlua cream cheese frosting...yum! I topped those with some semi-sweet chocolate shavings.

The cake was two different flavors. The bottom tier was Chocolate cake with Valhrona bittersweet chocolate ganache, oreos, and white chocolate mousse filling. The top tier was a White Chocolate cake with pastry cream and fresh strawberries. All were iced in buttercream and covered in fondant, with fondant decorations. I hope they all enjoyed their special treats!

Cakes, Cupcakes, Mardi Gras

My son had his final T-Ball game this past Saturday, so after the game we headed out for a pizza celebration with his team. I brought along some Buttermilk Chocolate Chip cupcakes with chocolate ganache filling and fondant baseballs.

Please excuse the picutres are kind of out of focus, our camera was running out of batteries!

I also did an order for some Carrot Cake cupcakes for a clients mother-in-law's birthday.

Carrot Cake with raisins and toasted chopped pecans and topped with White Chocolate Cream Cheese frosting and fondant flower cut-out.

This final order was for a Mardi Gras theme birthday cake. I had never done a Mardi Gras cake so I was pretty excited to do one. Of course, there are some things I would do differently and I had a really hard time getting the mask we made to stand up on the cake, so structure wise I need to rethink some things, but overall I think it turned out pretty neat.

The bottom tier was a Buttermilk Cake with a lemon curd filling and fresh raspberries and the top tier was Chocolate Cake with chocolate ganache, crushed oreos, and then topped with a white chocolate mousse filling. Each tier got a thin layer of buttercream and covered in fondant. The mask was made from gumpaste and painted with silver luster dust.

I could have spent another several hours on this cake, but then they never would have gotten it in time for the party!
