Our friends Nathan and Lindsey had a BBQ a few weeks ago and she asked me if I could bring dessert. Of course I was happy to....and despite the fact that we were having funky rainy weather, I created a couple of beach/summer fun cakes.
The large cake is a chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse filling and fresh strawberries. Iced in buttercream and covered with fondant. The surfboards are made of fondant, the sand is brown sugar, and my son was kind enough to let me borrow the palm trees from his dinosaur set.
The small cake is a white cake with a lemon curd filling and iced in buttercream and covered in fondant. All the beach pieces were made with fondant and the sand is again brown sugar.
